Their Situation Before Coaching
Here’s the experience of some people who have been coached by me. This is where their stories begin…
Paul's Story
I had a senior role as Head of Pricing in the AA Insurance organisation. I was good at my job but, besides the salary, I didn’t enjoy what I was doing.
I had an excellent appraisal last year but it didn’t motivate or inspire me. I was regularly being head hunted for other roles, but always felt that these jobs would do nothing to alleviate my dissatisfaction with my situation. I felt I was at a cross-road in my life.
Bev's Story
Following a major restructuring of the company in June 2005, the Finance Director left. I became the most senior manager in Finance. I made a major contribution to the restructuring and was encouraged to think of promotion to Finance Director (FD) within 12 to 24 months.
By July 2007, I was beginning to wonder if it was going to happen which was knocking my confidence and I knew then that I would need help to achieve my goal.
Richard's Story
I am a Partner and the Head of Business Education for a business and management development company. When I began coaching and mentoring, I was enjoying a successful career but felt the twin pressures of an increased workload and family responsibilities. How was I going to cope?
Steve's Story
I have 33 years experience in sales and marketing. This culminated in nine years as Sales and Marketing Director responsible for a £30M turnover generated by customers in the UK, Europe and the USA.
In 2004, I worked primarily as an associate of a sales consultancy company. Unfortunately, this did not work out and I found myself without work or income in September 2004. This situation hit me harder than I had imagined. I felt anxious, frustrated and concerned about the future. I urgently needed to find another job or we would have had to sell our house...
Becki's Story
When I began coaching, I was a junior member of the Human Resources team in a rapidly growing internet services company. As well as the normal demands of my job, I was involved in three major change projects and studying part-time at college.
I was very busy and I found it difficult to deal with interruptions and urgent requests. These would completely throw my schedule, setting me back to square one. During times of extreme pressure, I would become disorganised, moody and “unapproachable”. I was sensitive to colleague’s comments and could take criticism personally. My personal life also suffered as I regularly worked late and at weekends…
Robbyn’s Story
I am an experienced doctor working in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department of a major hospital. It can be stressful but I enjoy it!
Ten years ago, as a trainee General Practitioner (GP), I had a very traumatic experience when a patient died whilst I was the duty doctor. I was not able to discuss what happened with my trainer or to resolve my concerns at the time. As a result, this incident cast a shadow over my life for the next ten years and precipitated periods of depression. I considered various alternatives like counselling as I knew I needed to find a way to deal with this experience. I had been unable either to do this on my own or to find the right person to help me…
John's Story
I was 57 and unemployed. In the previous ten years I have had an unwanted divorce, serious illness and seen two companies fold underneath me. Moreover my area of expertise, IT for the National Health Service (NHS), was overshadowed by a large and poorly-run government initiative. I had expected to find another job fairly quickly, but it seemed that age and length of unemployment were stacking up against me…
Phil's Story
I had been made redundant twice in 3 years. I was living in hope that the right permanent role did exist for me but, after nearly 12 months without success, I realised I needed some help.
