SAPCA – Developing the Strategy

The Situation (Before partnering with FCL)

The Sports And Play Construction Association (SAPCA) had been established for fourteen years and had undertaken two previous strategy reviews. Its membership had grown to 230 specialist companies, all involved in the specifying, design, manufacture, construction and installation of sports and play facilities across the UK from grassroots through to prestigious venues for major sports competitions, including London 2012.

SAPCA had a track record of being at the forefront of quality in the market and building the reputation of its members across the various sectors, including with key sports governing bodies and other organisations in the marketplace.

However, the impact of the global recession, new forms of sports facility procurement, and growing demands from the marketplace were an increasing challenge to the success both of SAPCA and its members.

The Challenge (Presented to FCL by the Board of SAPCA)

The Board of Directors, comprising owners and senior managers of SAPCA members, resolved to review the strategy for the Association over the next five years. FCL were engaged to facilitate the process, working with a specially convened Strategy Planning Group of Board members, other SAPCA companies, and CEO Chris Trickey.
